Today was Eli's 1st day of Kindergarten!! Oh my goodness. In our county, the Kindergarteners go one day the first week. They're divided by last name to cover four days where they are "assessed" to see what is their incoming level and then on Friday we go in to find out his teacher assignment, meet her and see the room. Eli had gone back and forth about Kindergarten and moving to another school. Some days he would be excited and happy but then others he would say he didn't want to leave Primrose. But this morning, he was SUPER! He was excited to go to his new big school. He kept calling today a "test" day and he says he'll start "for real" next week. He will start full time in his class on Tuesday after Labor Day.
Tim & I both took Eli to his first day. It worked out great that we saw his friend Christopher in the parking lot so they chatted and walked into school together. We checked him in and they took his picture. He was so cute with his backpack and lunch box. Then after the picture, he headed down the hall to his class! I did great until they took him down the hall. I thought for sure that I'd get to walk him to the class but I had to do a quick goodbye at the end of the hall. Must confess, that made the tears come. But Eli did great and waved bye as he walked down the hall.
I made sure to pick him up from school this afternoon and his very first words when I got to the classroom were "Kindergarten was awesome!!". Then he ran back in the room! It made me feel so great that he had a fantastic day. I couldn't get too much out of him other than they ate in the cafeteria, played on the playground and were watching 'The Magic Schoolbus' when I picked him up. Oh yeah, and that he was the quietest of every one during quiet time. =)
We'll find out his teacher / class on Friday and then next week, he'll start Before and After School care. That will make it a lot like what we do at daycare because we'll have to sign him in and out each day. We'll have to figure out a new routine and lunch every day. Will also be a change in calendar / schedule as we'll have to pay attention to school holidays, early release, etc. But we're excited for this new adventure in Eli's life. He's going to be an awesome Kindergartener!
